We won’t be able to hold our usual BBQ after these sleigh runs, but watch out for additional, unscheduled surprise runs throughout December! For more information and to track Santa live, keep your eye on the Apex Santa Tracker.

We’ll also be selling Christmas trees as usual at Berowra Crossroads Reserve (near the dog park) and Pennant Hills Observatory Park on the following dates:

  • Saturday 5th December 8am until sold out

All proceeds from tree sales are returned to the community through Apex activities.

We hope you have a merry Christmas and happy new year!

Berowra Apex and Salvation Army Toy Drive 2020

Christmas is coming!

In addition to our usual annual Christmas events and activities, this year the APEX Club of Berowra are collecting toys on behalf of the Salvation Army (Hornsby), to help out local families doing it tough.

Donation locations have been set up at:

  • McGraths Real Estate in Berowra and Hornsby;
  • Bendigo Bank in Berowra; and
  • Glendenning Szoboszlay Architects in Mt Colah.

Donations of any new, un-opened, unwrapped toys will be gratefully accepted at any of these locations as well as our Christmas Tree Sales events in Berowra and Pennant Hills on Friday 4th and Saturday 5th of December.

To ensure they can reach the families in time for Christmas Day, donations will be accepted up until the 8th of December.

A little will go a long way for a lot of families, so all donations are greatly appreciated. We’re also taking cash donations that we will be using for Christmas hampers and gift cards as well.

Please get in touch via our contact page or on Facebook if you would like to know more about the toy drive, our club, or the other events we run.

Woodchop Acknowledged in NSW Parliament

Thank you Matt Kean, NSW member for Hornsby, for acknowledging the Berowra Apex Club in the NSW State Parliament, recognising the 25th anniversary of the Berowra Woodchop Festival. The club loves running the Woodchop every year, it’s a real Berowra institution now having run for 25 years. We very much appreciate the recognition from Matt, a tribute to all the Apex members who have helped out over the years.

The text of Matt’s speech:

I would like to congratulate Berowra Apex on celebrating the 25th year of the Annual Woodchop Festival. The men behind Berowra Apex are phenomenal and this event gets bigger and better every year. This year, despite the cold and windy conditions they have raised over $10,000 and hundreds of locals in Berowra enjoy the festivities. All the money raised at the festival will go back into local community projects and organisations. You can always count on the volunteers from Berowra Apex for being there to help out whenever there is a BBQ that needs to be cooked or just to lend a hand. These dedicated volunteers are an asset to our community.

Thanks Matt!

Woodchop 2019 is nearly here!

Berowra Woodchop Festival 2019

The Berowra Woodchop Festival is back again in 2019 bigger and better than ever. This year’s festival will be held on Sunday 11 August 2019 in the Berowra Village Tavern carpark and surrounding grounds from 10am to 5pm.

Raffle Donations

Every year the Apex club runs a raffle at Woodchop to raise money for Apex service programs in the community, as well as for community groups including the local Scouts and the Rural Fire Service.

We are seeking a range of prizes suitable for a major raffle prize, minor raffle prizes and a large number of small items for the chocolate wheel. All prize donors are recognised through thank-you boards displayed in high-traffic areas as well as at raffle ticket booths.

Businesses contributing major prizes valued at over $500 will be given the opportunity to display signage around the raffle area during Woodchop, and will be promoted in the lead-up to the event via online/social media, and throughout the day in PA announcements. We are also seeking headline prizes of value $1000 or more – please contact us directly if interested.

Any (new) item you choose to generously donate would be warmly welcomed and we would be happy to pick up it up – just send us an email at woodchop@berowraapex.org.au and we’ll take care of the rest.

Thank you in advance for your assistance with Woodchop and your support of the local community.

Movie Under the Stars and Berowra Hail Storm Volunteer Thank-you

Nearly everyone in the Berowra area was affected in some way by the devastating hail storm last year. And I know many of us are still suffering, fighting with flailing tarps, failing insurance companies and flooding homes.

One thing I think we all agree on though is the amazing response from our emergency services and other volunteers, local and abroad, in the wake of the storm. It was overwhelming to see the the amount of support and Berowra spirit that shone through – we truly do live in a remarkable community.

I think we could all use a night out to relax, socialise and most importantly to say thanks to all those who gave their time selflessly helping out those affected by the storm. So on Friday 12th April (last day of school term) at Warrina Oval there will be a special Movie Under the Stars / storm volunteer thank-you event, and you’re all invited!

This free event, supported by Hornsby Council and Berowra Apex, will feature live music, children’s entertainment, food and drinks and of course a family friendly movie (“Smallfoot”). Oh and did I mention there will be fireworks? Yes, fireworks!

Lots of food options available including sausage sizzle, gozleme, middle eastern, popcorn, fairy floss, slushies, hot and cold drinks. Live music featuring Winblu big band, The Niaben Sea and school bands. Jumping castles and Bugs About will be there too, and much, much more.

To cap it all off, our emergency services will be there mingling with the crowd and enjoying the evening. They will share a few words with us about the storm from their perspective, and will be on hand to have a chat.

The event will commence at 4pm, with the movie starting at around 6:30pm, which will be followed by the fireworks display. So bring a blanket, pull up some grass and enjoy the night!
